LEANING OBJECTIVES:
At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to::
- Define the role of antiplatelet therapy in the secondary prevention of non-cardioembolic ischemic stroke;
- Review guideline recommendations regarding the use of antiplatelets for prevention of recurrent ischemic stroke;
- Review clinical trial data regarding the use of antiplatelets for prevention of recurrent ischemic stroke;
- Discuss literature regarding dual antiplatelet therapy in secondary prevention of non-cardioembolic ischemic stroke and identify patients for which this strategy is appropriate;
- Discuss patient and agent specific characteristics that may influence antiplatelet recommendations for comprehensive patient care;
- Use evidence-based information and patient and agent specific factors to develop recommendations for antiplatelet therapy for secondary stroke prevention.
